The Distance Education Accrediting Commission (DEAC) recently recognized Columbia Southern University’s Khalilah Burton with the Rising Star Award.

Burton, who is the assistant provost of Institutional Effectiveness & Accreditation at CSU, was recognized by DEAC as “an emerging professional at a DEAC institution whose outstanding performance exemplifies ongoing and exceptional growth in contributing to distance education and a strong potential for promotion into higher levels of leadership and responsibility in the field of distance education and accreditation.”

“I am very humbled because I am being rewarded for something that I am truly passionate about,” said Burton, who has been employed at the Orange Beach, Ala.,  online university for three years. “My enthusiasm for data, improvement, and institutional effectiveness comes from helping teams, organizations, programs, and institutions maximize their efforts to improve or reach a desired outcome. I find great pleasure in seeing others excel.”

The DEAC Rising Star Award was presented to Burton as “she shows an amazing amount of promise in her chosen profession that includes, among other things, assuring her institution complies with DEAC accreditation standards. This person exemplifies proof that when energy and enthusiasm meets vision and skill – we all get better… and get noticed!”
