ORANGE BEACH, ALA. – As a military spouse with a husband away, working mom Caitlyn Dalton has struggled to find time and money to pursue an education to help her family.
However, things are changing thanks to her Hero Behind the Hero Scholarship from Columbia Southern University.
The Norfolk, Va., parent was awarded the online university’s special scholarship which honors the spouses and children of active-duty public safety personnel (firefighters, law enforcement officers, EMTs and dispatchers) and National Guard and military men and women. Four times a year, one scholarship is awarded to the spouse or child of a National Guard or active-duty military member or spouse or child of a public safety personnel.
Dalton, the wife of Andrew Dalton of the U.S. Navy, sought this scholarship after “I decided I needed to finally sit down and get a degree because my family needs to be as strong and as secure as possible now.”
She added, “In my determination, I found the perfect school, and as a sign, the perfect school came with the perfect scholarship opportunity, and I knew in that moment that I had to apply to Columbia Southern University.”
The scholarship will cover up to $12,600 in one online degree program. The scholarship will be applied directly to the recipient’s tuition for up to three years or until the completion of the selected online degree program, whichever comes first.
Dalton plans to pursue a bachelor’s degree in health care administration and eagerly hopes to support her family with a new career with her online education.
Columbia Southern University offers online certificate and degree programs in various fields such as human resource management, organizational leadership, fire administration, criminal justice and business administration.
