ITC 3450: Introduction to Data Communication

Description

Examines data communications fundamentals, including the transmission and reception of data signals, networking and network architecture, and communications protocols. Provides a baseline level of knowledge for success in industry and preparation for networking certifications, including the Network+, Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA), Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE), Certified Novell Administrator (CNA), and Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) designations.

Outcomes

  1. Differentiate between the several data networking standards.
  2. Classify common network hardware/utilities used for troubleshooting.
  3. Examine switching and routing for local area network (LAN) servers.
  4. Examine switching and routing for wide area network (WAN) solutions.
  5. Explain how Microsoft Windows network communication protocols are implemented in a Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) network.
  6. Illustrate network diagrams for network topologies.
